This is the starting point for older GPS units. The steps below will go through the advanced/partial install. Optional for newer units, required for older units: If you have limited memory space to just want to install specific parts of the maps click the Advanced/Partial Install button in the lower left corner.(Note: This option will also not exist with older units such as the 60CSx) You can select and unselect as you see fit and it will install the entire map selected. The next screen will show you all the maps installed on the unit currently.(Note: This option will not exist with older GPS units that only allow one compiled map per device (60CSx and similar) All my maps will not fit and thus I have to select the maps I want to use. If all of your maps will fit on your GPS it gives you a quick option to install them all. Right click on either the card or device and select "Install Maps".The device/card should appear on the left side as shown:.Plug in the device you would like to load the maps to (a microSD card, SD card, or the actual GPS unit)įor this tutorial I will be using a Garmin Dakota 20 and also a Garmin 60CSx with memory card installed in the GPS using a card reader will allow for faster map installs.Note: You'll need version 2.0.9 or higher to load custom maps. Open Garmin BaseCamp (all screenshots from version 4.3.4).This also causes a variation in how you select maps this variation will be covered in this tutorial. For older units it will have to rebuild the entire map database you've selected each time. For newer GPS units (Garmin Colorado and newer including Dakota, Oregon, Montana, and 62 series) the program will allow you to manage maps very easily/quickly. When loading maps onto your GPS Garmin BaseCamp is the preferred program. Loading The Maps With BaseCamp and MapInstall on a PC Warning: If you bought a micro-SD card that contains maps from Garmin DO NOT overwrite this card, use another card. PC: Use BaseCamp/MapInstall To Load Maps. This tutorial was updated in July of 2014 for the updated PC process. This how-to will detail how to load additional maps to your GPS unit with either a Mac or a PC. These receivers can still have maps loaded to them though in addition to the maps that already exist. These days many of Garmin’s new GPS receivers contain built in maps, from the nuvi series with road maps to the Colorado and Oregon with topos. (Note to others: If you are an Android newbie like me and want to load the beta, google "how to install APK on android", it's not hard to do.Author: Dan Blomberg & Rex Coggins | Last updated July 19th, 2014 at 11:37pm Thanks for the fix and I will look forward to the release version. I now need to study the rest of the Orux interface more carefully to see how the different maps interact with each other, there are some things going on I don't quite understand, but I'm glad to able to make/load my own maps. I loaded the beta and then a different, larger map I had created, and it worked, my map does display when I load it from the "offline" selection. I think I found a solution, at least for the map you sent me I bought the paid version today and hope you keep up the good work. As I said in my email, and will now say here, Orux looks like the best gps/mapping app for Anroid out there and compared to the others I've tried it has a much better interface. I need a non working map for testing-> have sent an email with a small map file attached as created from Garmin's MapInstall program. I need a non working map for testing-> wrote:Hi Thank you for looking at this issue.Android 2.3.6 on a Samsung Proclaim phone. I can see the file listed under "offline maps" in Orux and the map file name is shown on the main screen (with that option turned on in settings), but there is no map data displayed, just a white screen. I much prefer Orux and hope to use it! I have looked at all settings and preferences for maps trying to fix it, rebooted phone, restarted GPS, etc. The same exact file I create from MapInstall (called "gmapsupp.img") will display OK in another GPS android app called Trimble Outdoors Navigator but I get only a blank screen when putting this map in Orux. I want to report same issue, using Garmin's MapInstall to make maps I got from and I also tried a Garmin mapset I own. The "map" shows many "Gebäude" in a forest, complete card in gray.
